#5 Success Essential – Teamwork and Team Development
Tracey Watts – Cirino, Owner of Lavish Color Salon of Cleveland explains the Value of Team Development as the Fifth Essential Element in her educational series “How To Be a Success in the Hair and Beauty Industry,” .
Hi there – I’m back to talk to you about Teamwork and Team Development and how it translates into a successful career in the Hair and Beauty Industry.
I often hear my team being asked the question: How do you measure success and how do you know that you are successful? The answer is always: TEAMWORK!!!
We have all experienced salons over the years whose stylists are strictly out for their own agendas. You know the scene – constant backstabbing and always trying to steal each other’s clients. They may claim to be a team, but deep down their philosophy is every man (woman) for themselves. It doesn’t matter that it makes their guests uncomfortable and want to leave as soon as possible. And no, this is not the way for a guest to de-stress, relax and feel pampered. It feels more like “Yikes – get me out of here – I’m more frazzled now than I was before I walked in!”
Invest In Your Team
We all have a vision of coming to our favorite salon, being warmly greeted by everyone, being totally catered to, and just being comfortable and relaxed. That’s what we strive for at Lavish Color Salon. We have a team platform, and I mean a real TEAM platform, where we all work together and have each other’s back. In order to grow a team, you have to invest in others. After all, you can get so much more done when you are part of a tribe rather than going it alone. That’s why I’m so passionate about team development.
Appealing Team Environment
The first thing is to create an appealing environment that attracts others. Hearing our group explain to guests how they are so proud of their work ethic, environment, strong culture, and team value is amazing. There is never any drama about guests changing stylists here. We are totally fine with that, and would never ever make anyone feel uncomfortable about doing so. I always wanted to work in a salon like this where everyone is dedicated and has a passion for teamwork and helping others, so as an owner, you can imagine how thrilled I am to have fulfilled my dreams!
Amazing Hospitality – From “Hello” to “Goodbye”
At Lavish the whole guest experience is important to everyone, from the moment you walk through our door. There is always a kind smiling face to greet you, a welcoming gesture to make you feel at home and encouraging words from the entire staff to help facilitate a relaxing and pampered encounter. We leave our egos outside, so we are able to focus on what we can do to make you look and feel amazing. For instance, we will always take care of your coat, serve you coffee, tea or water, make sure you are completely comfortable, get you a magazine. In other words – your wishes are our commands.
Our hospitality is 100% interchangeable meaning that we are aware of EVERY GUEST in our salon, not just our own. That’s where genuine teamwork makes all the difference. It’s always best to be the best on a winning team, not a losing one. Therefore our strong sense of culture guides us in the right direction where great things happen every day.
I hope you find this helpful in your quest for the right salon team. It is an honor and a virtue to bring out the best in all and I will leave you with one of my favorite mantras:
